Books
The Robbins Library has a large collection of fiction and non-fiction titles in large print, which enjoys a wide usage. Popular categories are best sellers, classics and mysteries. This collection is located on the second floor. A small sampling of large print books is located on a display table on the first floor near the stairway.
Videos
Several of the titles in the video collection are close-captioned for the deaf and those with hearing difficulties. Also, the library maintains a small collection of DVS (Descriptive Video Service) videos for the blind. These are located on the third floor near the general video collection.
Magnifier
The Robbins Library invites you to examine the full-color Optelec Video Magnifier for those with limited vision. It is located in the Reference Room on the first floor. The Optelec allows you to:
- View small newspaper or magazine print with magnification from inch to 4 inches. This can be useful for stock quotes and sports scores.
- View photos and illustrations as well as text such as nutrition and prescription labels.
- Read personal correspondence.
- Write letters or personal checks.
The magnifier has a 14-inch display screen, a simplified control panel and variable height adjustment. It switches easily from true color to black and white or to any of 18 foreground/background color combinations. You may come in or call the library to arrange a demonstration. Call 781-316-3233.
