All appointments are limited to 15 minutes, and must be reserved at least a day in advance. There are two types of passes:
General Collections Individual Pass: Browse the 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor collections of adult and teen materials, plus the 4th floor Friends’ Book Sale. There is no Children’s Room access with a General Collections pass. Each person in your party requires a separate pass.
Children’s Room Family Pass: Browse the Children’s Room collections and/or the General Collections. A family pass is a group pass, so please indicate the number in your party when you reserve.
When you arrive in our lobby, follow the blue “Browsing Line” arrows to the greeter table so you can be checked in. Show your confirmation email on your phone or on a printout. If you made your reservation over the phone, simply provide your name.
Appointments can be booked by phone by calling 781-316-3206. Leaving a message does not guarantee an appointment.

Browsing Pass FAQ:
Q: Can anyone get a pass, even if you don’t have a library card?
A: Yes. Booking online or by phone will work for most, but in the event a patron has no access to a computer or phone, a pass will be reserved for them by library staff at the checkout desk. There are no same-day passes.
Q: What if I need to cancel my appointment?
A: There’s a link in your confirmation email that lets you cancel or reschedule, or you can call the appointment hotline: 781-316-3206.
Q: What if I’m running late?
A: You have a buffer of 15 minutes to show up for your appointment. After that, you’ll be considered a no-show and we’ll ask that you make another appointment.
Q: Can I make more than one browsing appointment per day? per week?
A: You are limited to one pass per day, but there are no limits on the number of appointments per week.
Q: I may need more than 5 minutes of help at the Reference Desk.
A: If you need more in-depth help, we’ll be happy to help you remotely by phone, email or chat.
Q: What safety measures are in place?
A: In addition to keeping visits very short (for now), we’re providing floor markers to help distinguish lines and where to stand at service points. Masks are required for all visitors over age 2. High-touch surfaces are cleaned regularly, and hand sanitizer stations are available for public use. Alcohol wipes are available at the Reference Desk for cleaning the catalog keyboard and print station touch-screens.
Q: Will restrooms be available in the library?
A: Yes, one restroom on the first floor and two in the Children’s Room will be available.
Q: Can I study, sit and read a book, or play with my child in the Children’s Room?
A: These 15 minute appointments are designed for quick trips to the library and we do not (yet) offer seats, toys in the Children’s Room, or other amenities for longer library visits.
