Enjoy reading and talking about books? Looking to continue reading throughout the school year? Join us for our FOURTH 6th Grade Book Club! Every month we’ll read a new book, discuss the present book, complete a papercraft activity based on the book, and choose a book for the following month. Refreshments will be provided. This is not a series. Each participant will have to sign up monthly via Eventbrite. Click HERE to complete the sign-up.
This month, we’ll be reading The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Pérez. Twelve-year-old María Luisa O’Neill-Morales (who really prefers to be called Malú) reluctantly moves with her Mexican-American mother to Chicago and starts seventh grade with a bang–violating the dress code with her punk rock aesthetic and spurning the middle school’s most popular girl in favor of starting a band with a group of like-minded weirdos. For an activity, we’ll be making zines! Zines are a big part of The First Rule of Punk, and with the book’s introduction to the idea, we’ll create some pretty solid zines based on our own interests! 🙂
Please pick up the book at the Circulation Desk at Robbins, and bring the book to the meeting on January 18th at 4:30 pm in the Robbins Conference Room (4th Floor).
