All About Arlington’s Plastic Bag Ban

June 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Please join us for an informative and engaging night with short videos, trivia and speakers that will answer all your pressing questions about how plastic impacts our world and community, what we can do to be part of the solution, and the logistics of Arlington’s own impending local plastic bag ban. Marine ecologist Carolina Bastidas of the MIT Sea Grant Program will be joining us in this event sponsored in partnership with Sustainable Arlington and the Arlington Recycling Committee.

Here in the United States, we use nearly 100 billion plastic bags annually. But what happens when we’re done with them? Most plastic bags wind up in our oceans, where they kill over a million marine animals and sea birds each year, while others litter our streets, forests, and even poison our bodies. This summer, Arlington will be taking a stand against plastic pollution by joining dozens of other municipalities across the Commonwealth and hundreds across the nation in banning single use plastic bags from checkout counters in retailers and restaurants in the Town.
