Arlington Public Art invites you to Meet the Artist: Michelle Lougee

December 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture is bringing acclaimed artist Michelle Lougee to Arlington for a year-long residency. During this time, Lougee will engage the Arlington community in creating a large-scale collaborative outdoor sculpture for PATHWAYS: Art on the Minuteman Bikeway. Lougee is a sculptor with a message: the health of our oceans and all life on the planet depends on eliminating the plastic trash choking our environment. Paradoxically, she is spreading this message with gorgeous sculpture fabricated by crocheting recycled single use plastic bags. Despite this industrial material, Lougee’s intricate forms feel organic. Built using small repetitive components, her sculpture is reminiscent of sea creatures, seed pods, microscopic organisms, and the complex cells that make up the human body.  Everyone is invited to a kick-off reception to meet artist Michelle Lougee and hear about her work.
