Transform Plastic into Public Art

November 30, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Please join us for a a special preview workshop for experienced crocheters in advance of the official project launch of Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture’s first Artist-in-Residence Project!   Over the next 7 months, sculptor Michelle Lougee — who will teach this workshop — will lead the community in making a collaborative sculpture with a message: reduce plastic and protect wildlife and the environment!  The workshop will cover how to make “plarn” — plastic yarn — from recycled single use plastic bags and how to crochet sculptural elements that will be used for our installation this summer on the Minuteman Bikeway in Arlington’s Cultural District. Organized to support Fair Saturday, which combines the arts and the good work of nonprofits. Workshop participants will also learn about SurfRider Foundation’s important activities — including volunteer opportunities — to keep oceans free of plastic waste and to ban off-shore drilling for oil in Massachusetts.  RSVP to Cecily Miller at  cecily.apa@gmail.com.
