May is National Bike Month

Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to celebrate biking and to encourage people to get around on a bike. Here are some tips about biking in Arlington:

  • You can find a Bike Repair Kit in our Library of Things
  • See the history of the Minuteman Bikeway in our Historical Arlington Newspapers collection
  • Easy access to bike paths, bike lanes, and infrastructure that keeps cyclists safer
  • We have handy bike racks for convenient bike parking!

Arlington promotes bicycling as a healthy, environmentally-friendly way of getting around all year. 2021 was a big year for bikes in town. Arlington’s Bicycle Advisory Committee reports that in 2021 294,859 cyclists passed through Swan Place on the Minuteman Bikeway and Arlington BLUEbikes went on a total of 9,607 trips. Better yet, Arlington was named a Silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists!

We ask that all visitors who come to the library by bike follow the Town of Arlington Bicycle Parking Guidelines and use bike racks or other bike parking structures. Securing bikes to library handrails along our stairs, etc. impedes library access for some of our visitors.
