The Bees are Back!

Our new beekeeper Alix Bartsch from the Lexington Bee Company came by on May 11th and put in two new hives! Watch the delivery at https://youtu.be/lKGTUILTEFo.

You can check out the hives on our third floor. Each hive contains over 10,000 Italian bees (the gentlest kind) and one queen. This time of year, the queen is capable of laying up to 3,000 eggs per day! It takes about 21 days for an egg to become an adult bee.

About 80% of the flowers on library grounds are bee pollinated, so the bees definitely help keep our grounds looking beautiful!

Our thanks to Merrimack Valley Apiaries for the hives, and a huge thank you to the Friends of the Robbins Library for supporting our pollinating friends.
